HostGator Affiliate Program Review
Before I get into HostGator's affiliate program, let me say that I have been using them for some time now and I can confirm that they do track sales fairly well and payout on time. This is really the main concern about affiliate programs nowadays, too many people getting cheated out of commissions.
Signing up to HostGator's affiliate program is easy and intuitive, just follow the on screen instructions to setup a free affiliate account. Once you've signed up, make sure to update your payment settings. You can get paid through PayPal or check, and I always go with PayPal, that way you don't have to worry about delays or missing mail.
HostGator lets you create coupon codes for your customers. Some popular coupon codes are 25% off or a $9.94 coupon offer. Your coupon codes can also act as branding for your website, and you can set the coupon code text to be your website name. HostGator limits you to 10 coupon codes, so create them carefully.
HostGator pays commission based on a tiered system, the more you sell the more you make. Here is the breakdown:
1-5 .................$50 / signup
6-10 ..............$75 / signup
11-20 .............$100 / signup
21+ ................$125 / signup
Issues
Like any other commission based business, there will be arguments between the affiliate and the company about unpaid commission or untracked commission. There have been many people complaining about HostGator not giving credit for sales made. Also, affiliates have been concerned that many sales are being flagged as fraudulent or inactive and commissions being reversed. This hasn't been my experience. The only way to really know how they will convert is to give them a try and see for your self.
